Meet Simba!

A few months ago Helping Hands received a call from VCA Animal Hospital in Plymouth. Simba, a young cat, only a year and a half old, had ingested a significant amount of string from a cat toy, which was confirmed by x-rays as a life-threatening intestinal blockage that had actually perforated his intestine.

Simba’s owners paid $700 for the x-rays and were instructed to rush him to VCA South Shore emergency veterinary hospital in Weymouth for immediate surgery. Not only were devastated by the diagnosis, but unfortunately they were not in the financial position to afford the estimated $6,000-$7,000 for emergency surgery. Luckily, they were able to secure a line of credit right away from Care Credit, but they still needed help with the expense of surgery and inpatient care.

Helping Hands was able to contribute a portion of the expense to get Simba the vital, life-saving care he needed. Today Simba is fully recovered and is a healthy and happy boy! He's says "Meow!" to all the Helping Hands' supporters who make our work possible!

Meet Bailey!

Bailey hurt her front leg and was unable to put any weight on it. Bailey’s dad called in a panic, fearing she may have broken or torn something. He called Veterinary Urgent Care Center (VUCC) in Plymouth to get a cost estimate for an exam and x-rays, which was about $500. Bailey’s dad is currently living paycheck to paycheck and an unexpected expense like this was a hardship. He called Helping Hands seeking financial assistance to get Bailey the proper treatment she needed. Bailey was able to be seen at VUCC Plymouth for exam and x-rays: luckily there were no breaks or other significant damage seen, and Bailey was sent home with prescription anti-inflammatory and pain medications.

Helping Hands was able to contribute a significant portion of this veterinary expense, and Bailey’s dad was also able to pay some of it too. We checked on Bailey a few days after her visit and she was doing much better! Pictured are Bailey (front) and her brother Ziggy who were rescued by their dad from a kill-shelter in Arkansas.

We love sharing these uplifting stories with you all and hope you enjoy them too!
